2010-03-15
Ukrainian Retail, the operator of the
Brusnytsia grocery chain, is in talks with
Pakko Holding over the possible acquisition of 17
Vopak supermarkets located in the Kharkov Province.
The stores in question were acquired by Pakko in 2008 and had previously been operated as franchise stores of the Russian
Pyaterochka chain, which ultimately withdrew from Ukraine. They were also the first Vopak stores to be opened in the eastern part of the country. Pakko Holding’s vice-president for development, Oleg Kryzhanivsky told
Retail Update Russia that the chain has established a presence in the Kharkov Province as an experimental project and that the holding’s priority is the western part of the country.
The Brusnytsia grocery chain comprises approximately 70 outlets, occupying a combined total area of 30,870 m
2. Last year the company invested UAH 126m ($15.8m) in the development of its network and opened 30 stores.
Pakko Holding operates 71 Vopak supermarkets and nine
Pakko cash and carry stores.
