2010-02-08
The
Eurocement Group, the largest cement manufacturer in Russia, maintained production volumes in 2009 at the pre-crisis level whereas other cement producers recorded a reduction, according to a report in
Kommersant.
Last year the company manufactured 15.42 million tonnes of cement, whereas in 2009 the figure was 15.46 million tonnes. Overall, last year 44.3 million tonnes of cement were produced in the country, a year-on-year reduction of 17%, according to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).
The most significant decline was observed in the production output of companies located in the Siberian and Urals federal districts:
Sibirsky Cement, which last year manufactured 66% of its 2008 output, and
Dyckerhoff, which produced only 59% of its 2008 output.
Novoroscement has become the second largest cement manufacturer in Russia in 2009 in terms of production volumes. During the year the company produced 3.8 million tonnes of cement, which is only 5% less than during the previous year. This was followed by
Vita-Line (3.3 million tonnes),
Sebriakovcement (3.1 million) and
Lafarge (2.5 million).
Experts forecast that in 2010 the volume of the cement market in Russia will remain at the 2009 level or may increase by up to 3 million tonnes. Competition on the market should improve, as several new cement plants using the dry technology method of production are due to begin operating during the year. These include the factory in Novotroitsk being built by
Metalloinvest, a plant in the Leningrad Province which belongs to the
LSR Group,
Shchurovsky Cement, which belongs to
Holcim,
and the
Serebryansky Cement plant, which has a capacity of 5.5 million tonnes and is being built by
Basic Element.
