Andrzej Aumiller unveiled as new minister of construction
2006-11-06
Self-Defence nominee Andrzej Aumiller is Poland’s new minister of construction, replacing the hitherto holder of the post, Antoni Jaszczak. Mr Aumiller has already been officially sworn in by President Lech Kaczynski. The appointment has been received favourably by the market.
Mr Aumiller believes that the ministry’s most important tasks are to prepare a comprehensive housing programme and more effectively use EU funds for building in Poland. According to the new minister, to achieve this goal implementing a new housing construction statute that will support all sectors of construction – individual, developer, co-operative, municipal and social – is of paramount importance. According to him, the act should cover the 2007-2013 period, which would enable it to adjust to the EU’s programme of financial aid. He also stressed the need to come up with a definition of social housing.
MrAumiller is a former Labour Union (UP) MP. As a member of that party he took part in work during the Parliamentary Select Committee hearings on the PKN Orlen affair, serving first as deputy chairperson and later as head of the committee. In July 2005 he left UP and joined the ranks of Self-Defence, although despite being on that party’s list of candidates in the last parliamentary elections he failed to secure a seat in the Sejm.
